Default 1971 Vacuum Line Question

So last weekend I was working on installing the vacuum lines in my engine bay. As I worked I was comparing my pre-restoration photos to the AIM and I noticed a discrepancy. On the passenger side of the firewall there's a large vacuum line leading from the steel tube (which runs from one side of the firewall to the other) down to the vacuum manifold on the inner fender skirt. On my car there is a t-connector near each end of this vacuum line with hoses leading to somewhere (I'm not sure where they originally led yet - haven't tracked that down in my photos yet). However, in my AIM there are no such t-connectors.

What do you guys think? Is this just bubba at work and I should just eliminate the t-connectors, or was this an after-the-fact change that wasn't shown in the AIM?

The T in your picture is correct. It feeds vacuum to the HVAC controls in the console and dash.

I'm doing the same thing on my '69 today. Found discrepancys with the AIM as well. I would treat it as a guide rather than a bible. For example, there are differences between A/C and non A/C but yet the AIM has only a one size fits all diagram. Also, what was designed and drawn may not be how it was done when the cars came down the line. Alternatively, be on the lookout for changes made by previous owners.

Two tips:

A little bit of soapy water helps slide the new hoses onto fragile plastic fittings and thru grommets.

Working from one end to the other allows you to cut out sections of the old hoses while maintaining a pattern so that you can locate the bands of tape holding the hoses bundled and keep track of how the hoses were routed.

But most of all, have fun!!

Hi,
The large T on the left side of the 2 pipes supplies vacuum to the vacuum storage tank and to the large green hose running forward to the headlights. UPC 12 Sheet A14.
The small T on the right side of the 2 pipes is shown with the heater control info in UPC 1asm Sheet M3.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Alan

That's the detail I was looking for. You always seem to come through with the exact reference I'm looking for - thanks!
