Gasket Installing 101
I am wanting to install my side cover (gasket) on my 4 speed transmission.
Do I use some kind of gasket maker on one side, both sides , no sides at all?
Do I put something in the bolt holes as well?
I have cleaned both mating surfaces real well so I just want to make sure that I install this correctly - and leak free

Clean both sides with a wire brush. I use a spray gasket sealer on the gasket, its more of a tacking agent that holds it in place. Small spray can, I get it at any parts store. Works every time. The only thing Ill use a silicone sealer on anymore are valve cover gaskets, thats just because there is so much room for leakage and variance among valve covers.
