Default Paint/Trim Codes

My 73 has is 927 (Dark Blue), with a 422 (Dark Saddle) interior. According to a couple of sources I have looked at the 422 was not offered with the 927 paint. I was wondering if that is correct and could this combo have been special ordered.

If this is some kind of special order combo is there a way to find out how many were made this way?

Thanks
Mark

422 is dark saddle and is not listed as a factory offered combination with Dark Blue. It certainly would be a compatible color combination and it's curious it wasn't offered. Anything is possible and it's probable that your car came with it.

Well there is no doubt in my mind that this is the original interior, it's all wore out and everything is the dark saddle color. I just was wondering how unique it is with that combo.

I am doing a body off restoration and having to replace most of the interior ( upholstery, carpet. door panels, and top dash pad, maybe part of the console). I have already got all the stuff for that, but I am not crazy about the blue and the dark saddle together.

The car is a NOM and I am doing it for myself with the intent of having it for the duration. Since it will be all apart and needs paint I am seriously considering changing the color to yellow or the orange that was offered in 73. I think either of these will go better with the interior color. If this blue/dark saddle is some kind of rare oddity then I would probably go back with the original color eventhough I would rather have something different (yellow).

That is why I was wondering if there is a source that could document how many 73s had this color combo..

It was possible to order any exterior colour with any interior colour- the factory simply suggested some combinations. These guidelines could be overridden by the dealer with a signature and a phone call, nothing special.

There are NO records of option combinations for any year C3 Corvette, just a bunch of pie in the sky guesses.

Mike is correct. As long as those colors (exterior & interior) were "available options" [and not 'special order'], a buyer could order any combination they chose. However, if the dealer/salesman did not feel that combination would re-sell easily {if the buyer welched on the deal after the car came in}, he/she could require the buyer to put down a stiff deposit to cover them in that instance.

Since your color combination is still 'attractive', I suspect that there were several cars built that year with the same combination. In terms of normal build quantities, that combination would still be considered "rare" for that year. And, since it was built that way at the factory, you can legitimately use that color combination as a selling point for the "uniqueness" of the car.

Even though the combination isnt listed in some sources, I would not consider the Ds to be any kind of selling enhancer, especially if the car is an NOM. Its not like its an uncommon color combination.

Plus, as I look at a Black Book, it does not list Ds (dark saddle) with 927blue, but is DOES list "Dr" which Dark Red, an absolutely hideous color combination with your blue. That tells me either the reference materials are wrong or could even be a typo that should have said "Ds" in the first place.

I agree with Mike and 7T1. GM listed "recommended" color combinations; you could order what you wanted as long as it was not going to cost GM anything. Dark saddle leather was available with several other exterior colors, so they would have had plenty of dark saddle parts on hand at St. Louis.
