Default Headlight Adjustment Problem!

OK so I've reinstalled my headlight buckets after having completed rebuilding them. Passenger side went great fits & operates as it should. Driver's side not so good. The problem is when I connect the actuator rod the headlight cover sits about a 1/4" too high in the closed position. I've maxed out all the adjustments to no avail. If I disconnect the actuator rod no problem getting the proper adjustment. In other words the actuator rod holds the cover 1/4" high even though the Clevis has been screwed down as far as it can go on the actuator rod. What gives? I've been screwing with this off & on for over a week now! I need help please.

The headlight doors are adjustable, the brackets that mount the doors have three bolts on each side. Loosen them to change the height of the doors re-tighten at desired height . They have collars that adjust to door left or right. Hope this is some help.

Hi G73,
Have you tried to use the 'closed' adjustment bolt to stop the door where you want it. I would think that bolt would stop the actuator where you want even if the clevis and rod aren't quite adjusted properly.
You see the end of it in the center of this picture. It just above the plastic switch, and between the inner springs.
Regards,
Alan

Is the door to high in the front or the rear. What I was talking about will raise or the lower the back. What Alan's suggest will help you with the front.

Alan I've tried this adjustment but unless the Clevis is disconnected I can't get the cover to set low enough. In other words the Clevis rod prevents holds the cover up 1/4" & will not let the cover go down any further. Strange but true. I can't figure it out,

The door is 1/4" High at the front. Other than that it fits fine.

You could shim the 2 mounting bracket bolts at the front of the headlight assembly.Put washers between the bracket and the header bar. This will lower the front of the assembly. This wouldn't be my preference but it will work.

The post from My 76 Ray has a good diagram of the headlight assembly. I think from reading the posts their is an adjustment screw/bolt that is preventing the front from closing completely.

The front mounting bracket sets on top of the header bar therefore it seems placing shims between the bracket & header bar would raise the headlight cover instead of lowering it.
