Swapped to a 12 ton shop press. Ground the threaded end of a bolt until it was smaller than the rivets. Two rivet ends are round and one is oval shaped. Put a 3/4 inch drive socket under the regulator to support the backside and allow the rivets and center pin to come through. Put the skinny end of the ground down bolt on the rivet and held it until the shop press touched it. Then pumped the press till it wouldn't move. Nothing. WTF
So I am sitting there contemplating the bottom of a lager glass when the force on that center pin finally pushed it through the regulator. POP it went and I nearly jumped out of my skin.
The other ones came out a little easier with continued use of the press. Still lots of POPS.
Drill out the bucked ends of the roller rivets then knock them out.
The rollers at the end of the arms really should have a rivet squeeze but I don't have one of them at home so I put a long punch upside down in my vise and set the rivet pin inside the roller on it. Then slipped the regulator arms over the rivet end and had my wife tap the rivet till it was set.
Really it wasn't a difficult job once I got away from the hammer. The new regulator gear comes with a rivet and spring retainer. You have to buy the center pin and all the other stuff. All of it gets set with a shop press.
