So I am trying to get the old 76 vette back in shape new brakes shocks new carb new u-joints but now I have a problem with it surging like it isnt getting enough fuel. I read about the fuel sock and ordered a new one with a gasket. I went to take the tank off and realized it had a liner. It worked fine meaning no leaks fuel guage worked but the strainer sock did look bad. My question is keep everything as is except change the sock and rubber lines? The liner looks fine and I hate putting more money into it my wife is about to kill me! I had to cut the mufflers off to get to the tank so there is another issue!! Any advice?
I dont know about the spring in the sock. But I had a problem with my 73 with similar symptoms with surging and stalling. It turned out to be the sock. When I took it off it looked ok, but there must be some small obstruction that prevents gas from going through.
The spring does not sound like it could be too much money. I can understand why it would work and increase the surface area.
I missed that when I was taking a drink of coffee, probly saw it thru the bottom af the cup, 76 has an issue with the sock being to close to the bottom of the tank and plugging up. my 76 had it. the fix is to bend the tube ...just a bit...so its bout 3/8" from the bottom. there's actually a tech. paper from gm regarding this fix
its possible yours was already ...fixed...but it would be good to measure to be sure.
