Default 1971 Front spring question

Hi, Iam in the middle of doing a rebuild of my front suspension. When I took out my front springs I had thick rubber about 3/4's of an inch wrapped around the bottom. My question is does the rubber belong on the bottom of the springs or not? Was this original or was this added later? Should I add them to the bottom of the new springs? I have a small block with AC so I had to go with the big block springs.....thanks Anthony

those used to be added to compensate for sagging springs, you may not need them with the new springs

The springs I bought from willcox looks real nice but I cant understand something. The spring ends will only fit in the upper or lower grove. It will not fit in both like the original spring. Which grove should I go with upper or lower? Thanks Anthony

fit the upper , make sure you dont cover the drain hole in the bottom control arm with the bottom spring end is my take on the subject. Ernie who owns Wilcox is on here every day and is good people. post the question on one of his threads or call Wilcox to be sure for their springs, hope this helps
