Default 1968 Radio Question

Can someone please tell me the radio opening measurements for a 1968 stock bezel opening? I am in the process of repairing mine as it is finally time to upgrade from the kickin' 8 track that was in there. The previous owner hacked it up a bit to get the bigger 8 track in. Thanks in advance for the ALWAYS dependable help! Jason

Thanks for the info... I'm on the fence about the stock radio? I would love a stock radio that had modern intenals. I'm in the midst of a frame off resto and regardless of the radio choice, I do know that I wan't to retain the stock opening for the sake of the car. The interior will be finished to original standards and that opening is the only nonconforming piece inside the cabin. Got any suggestions?

There are businesses that do just that....take a stock radio (in any condition) and refit it with new internals and connections, keeping the original dash appearance. I would think that would be the 'ticket' for you.

P.S. If you have a '68 FM Stereo radio [complete with '68 multiplexer unit, of course], you can sell that on E-bay for Big Buck$, then buy a defunct later vintage unit (70-77, I think) for $100 or so and send it off to be refurbed with new stuff for the funds you got from the '68 radio sale.
