Many years ago (25) the motor builder of my 327 cu in motor installed a "350 cam" his words. He said it was a very mild cam. Here is my question, was there a cam known as a "350 cam"?
I guess it could be a cam out of a 350 cu in motor or a cam used in a 350 hp motor. I talked to him a few years ago and he doesn't remember. If I ever had paper work on it it must be long gone.
Short of tanking it out is there a way to ID it?
If you had the equipment, and the time to research the required direction, you could determine the lift and duration of the cam.
Before I'd do that, I'd buy a cam I liked and just replace it with a more modern grind. Bases on your mileage and oil pressure.
Since the instance was 25 years ago and he was speaking about a 327, my guess is the '350' cam he referred to was the legendary L79, 350 hp 327. That hydraulic cam is #3863151.
It would have the number similar to this stamped into the distributor end.

Just some interesting information to me that I found GML-79 aka "151" aka 327/350. Originally used in RPO -L 79 350 HP 327. The 151 made 323 HP at 5000 RPM and 369 foot pounds at 3500 RPMs.
The next time I see "Bud" I am going to jog his memory. He is a legend around here. For many years he was a main stay at the local drag strips. He also ran his own speed shop. So I am not surprised he couldn't resist a few upgrades.
