I attended the annual Dead Man's Curve CC Hot Rod party yesterday and a Cheetah parked next to me. Very cool car (and owner). Dennis Gage was there filming for My Classic Car. It's a private show held on private property, and you can only get in if you have a pre-72 automobile. About 2000 cars showed up ... it was a blast.
The Cheetah is a neat, neat car. It's mid-engine even though the driver sits behind the engine. There's no driveshaft...the transmission shares the universal joint with the differential.
Back in the early 1960's when the first Cheetahs were built, they could have savaged the Cobras but GM wouldn't help out as it could have hurt Corvette sales.
Dennis was super nice. I spoke to him for about 5 minutes. He then handed my son a few "My Classic Car" stickers.
I wanted to drive up to Connecticut to see Wayne Carini's place (my son loves the show). I never made it ... maybe in October ... I'll tell my wife that I want to go to see the leaves change color ! lol
A lot of people admiring the car were talking about slot car cheetahs. The owner had an unopened johnny lightning toy car cheetah on the dashboard. My son now wants to find one because "he doesn't have that car in his collection".

Carini's place is small...they did an open house there last year.

The fire that desroyed Bill Thomas' race shop didn't help either...
[QUOTE=CQRT;1581703293]What kind of guy is Dennis Gage - - nice, approachable?QUOTE]
Dennis was in WV a couple of years ago to film his show at The Charleston Boulevard Rod Run & Doo Wop. Check it out at www.charlestonwvcarshow.com . Dennis was very "down to earth" and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. His film crew had to keep him "on task" as he kept getting distracted by talking to everyone.
Hi,
Another Cheetah bodied slot car owner here.
Blue with an asymmetrical white stripe, and later red with a white stripe.
I think the Cheetah is right up there on the list of cars where finding a place for the driver to SIT ( lay, kneel, crouch) was a last minute thought.
Regards,
Alan
Just to continue this episode of six degrees of separation, I bought Bill Thomas headers and front motor mounts for my rat motor install in '57 Nomad wagon. I needed to put a turnbuckle on the left side to keep the engine from torquing the right side pipes into the frame rail. Equal length design made fantastic horsepower.
