I have someone interested in doing a partial trade for my truck, I am not very familiar with older cars in general so I would like to get a ballpark figure on how much you guys think it's worth before I spend a few hundred to have it inspected/appraised. Here are the details.
1980 Corvette L82 Black on Black with 25,000 ORIGINAL miles. Was bought from the original owner (local) 3 years ago has a book full of information with everything thats ever been done to the car. All original except the stereo system.
It does have minor paint flaws, chips, small scratches, ect...nothing major. Interior is like new. I have attached a few pictures.
I will leave it up to the other guys, but she looks really nice. I think an engine pic would help for the guys as well and just ensure there is no frame rust.
looks like really nice shape - -assumes no rust, some books and records, great miles, everything works . . .stereo may be more of a negative than positive, but . . I dunno . . $12-14ish ?

ALL records and books. I have the same opinion on the stereo

subtract about 25% from what the vette is worth, subtract about 25% from what your truck is worth and compare.. don't compare a retail price with a trade in price.. trades are a good part of the time beneficial to the guy that suggests it. 30 year old cars will take money to keep running, whereas your truck may be reliable as is.
I am really on the fence about wanting it or not. I wasn't planning on doing any trades. I may just do the deal, work on it over the winter and sell it next spring...
The stereo is definitely more a negative than a positive. If I was convinced this really was a low mileage car in really good shape (that driver's seat looks good, but not like a 25,000 mile car), I would pay high teens for it. The right guy might go over $20K if it really is what he says it is. Any apparent shenanigans with the mileage or anything else and I would cut those numbers in half.
In other words, if the car really checks out, taking the car and $7K in cash so you would be $12K into this car looks like a good deal to me. I would have a very jaundiced eye at inspection time though.
If you are looking for a daily driver keep the truck. Love my car but they are expensive to keep on the road. After 30 years something is always going wrong. As a toy this is a good deal if mileage is true and no rust on the birdcage. I paid 14,500 for an 82 that had 10000 upgrades already completed.

It will not be a dd. I might put a couple hundred miles on it a year if even that.

I think the truck looks very nice and very well maintained .. but the price is pretty strong - -
You can manipulate the prices- classic car dealer trade vs purchase all day long- but the Vette and $7k is a safe bet all day long IMO. Anything more that you get is gravy and the fun factor for the Vette is pretty strong.

Good luck-
Yeah, the price is pretty strong. But 5.9 diesels get harder to find with low mileage everyday plus I'm in the NW were truck's seem to hold their value pretty well especially going into winter
Vettes are fun...I sold my 08 Z06 back in May. I don't think this one will be as quick though

not by a long shot - - I sold my Z51 C6 last summer and went old school buying another `73 since I'd had one "back in the day" . .
I thought I remembered really hauling tail when we club raced and rallied our 73 back then - - getting out of the C6 and into this one - yep, same sorta thing that life has done on my body 40 years later - -there's no comparing the performance !
"ORIGINAL MILES" means nothing on a car that has an odometer that goes only to 99,999 and then back to 00,000. Miles need to be "DOCUMENTED" to justify a higher price than average.
Interior looks original.
Finger tab on battery compartment is broken off, and the frame for the compartment may be cracked. Common on later model C3s.
It may just be the photo, but is the front bumper scuffed up?
Based on what I can see in the photos it looks like a fair price would be $8,000. If he can provide documentation on the mileage, you can add $2,000 to the value.

Miles are documented
I think the photo is just making the bumper scuffed up, I don't recall it having any big scuffs, scratches, ect...
