Default Bumper Replacement Advice

Hi Folks,

I am looking to have my 1980 Corvette repainted and bodyshop told me that it would be best to replace the original front and rear bumper covers with fiberglass parts, as the originals will eventually crack the new paint. Seems like a logical thing to do.

Any advice on who makes the best fibergalss replacement bumpers? Any places I should stay away from? I plan on ordering them online.

By the way, the price quote I got for stripping, sanding, blocking and painting with clear coat finish is @$8,000. Sounds reasonable, you thoughts?

Thanks.

There are quite a few threads on the bumper subject. Fiberlgass vs Tru-Flex vs original type urethane. I just repainted my '73 in the spring and went with Tru-flex via Wilcox.
I very happy with it. Bodyshop mentioned it fit very well with little fuss. Of course that will vary from car/car.
For what it's worth, I paid $8000 for my repaint. I, however had the paint media blasted/removed before the bodyshop took over. They did an awesome job!! The removed the hood and the doors. They also took out the window mechanism to clean and adjust the windows. Installed (supplied by me) new weatherstrip, and basically made sure everything on the car fit well, door gaps even, side glass fits as it should and goes up/down properly. They did alot of work for the $8000 I paid him. It helped that the owner is also owns a few Corvettes of his own.
