i sent the carb back to holley after talkin w their tech reps, and yesterday a brand new replacement arrived, free of charge!!
no reason for the original problem given, but i talked w a carb guy at carlisle who said he heard back years or so holley got a bad batch of metal w too much lead mixed in. these carbs were known to corrode like mine did. anyway i gotta give holley credit, my original carb was 2005 dated.
Taking responsibility for something purchased that long ago is rare. Kudos to Holley!
I have a similar experience with VB&P. My car had one of their rear springs on it when I bought the car. Several years later it broke. VB&P sent me a replacement at no cost even though I was not the original purchaser, and the age of the spring was anyones guess.
I can add another thumbs up, awesome customer service from Holley with my Street Avenger that was coming apart due to the ethanol fuel. I bought it as a rebuilt unit off eBay and when the problem occurred I mentioned it to my local speed shop and he told me Holley had a problem with the casting material a few years ago but they were replacing the units with a new carb. I called Holley and the guy was surprised there was still an old styled carb out there but told me to send it in. A few weeks later I had a new carb that has been working perfect once I set it up for my application. This was almost 2 years ago.
