Default Estimate on repairs

Car is in Arizona i`m in N.C.

Mike V. here on the forum was nice enough
to check out a `69 Conv. for me.

Its like I thought an unrestored car with leaks.
58k original miles.

Anyway appox. to repair leaks at valve covers- steering box,
maybe rear main seal- I know most of this is labor. Typical
low miles car that wasn`t driven much and is now leaking.

If I wasn`t getting a good deal I wouldn`t bother.

Thanks,
John

a lot will depend on where you are getting it repaired at. Some shops charge $45/hr and some specialty shops charge $75/hr.. Can you do any repairs yourself, that will save a lot.

Call some shops in your area, tell them what you want to do, and get estimates.

Valve cover should not be to bad if you get good gaskets and don't over torque the bolts.

Steering box, is this a number matching restore project or get it fixed to drive? If restoring then yea you can get rebuild kits and go that route. If driving then get a Rack&Pin or a jeep steering box.

Rear main I would not touch unless it was just flowing out or you are pulling the motor for a rebuild.

If those are the only problems with the car sounds like its in good shape. As far as pricing that will vary a LOT, esp with a older car like this. Best to either do it yourself or find someone on these forums that lives near you to do it as side work.

Arizona is a BIG state. Where is the car? That might narrow down where to have it repaired.

It's up in Havasu and needs to get to the Carolinas . . I think he's simply trying to figure out what his total cost of acquisition will be - -a local forum member has taken a good long look at the car.

John- I'd guess those items will cost less than a grand . . transport would probably be a grand on an open trailer- double that for enclosed.

Or, if it's driveable, he could spend $600 on gas and an extra $20 for leaked oil.

(I'd opt for having it shipped.)

Fresh rebuild engine, trans. fairly new paint 87k miles. Interior needs alittle tlc.

If that's all it needs, the repairs shouldn't be all that bad. Around here maybe $450 to $550.
