Power Window Regulator/real time work going on!
Helping a friend with a 77 work on his driver side power window regulator at this very moment. the motor bracket broke so we replaced it with identical bracket. Now when we lower window almost to the bottom there is a metal to metal clunk and something pushes the motor outward. other than that it works but won't for long if we don't find the cause. we can't see or feel what's hitting because of the limited space. The window appears to be adjusted correctly. Does the window have to be in the full up position before you install the regulator or is the window position that critical?

Food for thought:
If you look past the glass when lowering it.. check to see if one of the levers is not hitting. By levers I mean the X levers that pivot.
We just had a car in our shop with the same problem and one of he levers was bent doing exactly what you described.
