Default 77 L-82 90% there

Hi All,

Just want to share that my 77 is finally really road ready.
I had no idea why when I first bought it everyone was saying to dump it, don't waste my time, but I didn't listen.
A few dollars here and there and some time I have a car that I can drive almost anywhere (still need to check all 6 U-Joints)
I went over the whole car and I now know what and when was done to it.
Birdcage and body solid and everything works.
Three years went fast but with some repainted parts and a new carpets and some interior parts I am very happy, since my original cost was about $1,000.00 and with everything so far I am still under $3,000.00.
I can't buy a car that gives me as much pleasure as this one does for that price anywhere. (I wish it ran on regular. ;?) )
I will check the U joints this week and take it on a few hundred mile journey.
Thanks for everyones help. With all of the service manuals and tricks found along the way, I have a great car.

Thanks
Jack

Once you are more comfortable with the car, try some regular. You might have to take a degree or two out of total timing, but I suspect it will do fine. I only suggest you drive it a bit as is to familiarize yourself with the performance, and sound using premium so you have a baseline to consult using a less expensive fuel.

I have never heard that. I have heard about mid range with a timing reset. We had 103 and higher octane back in the day. Now we don't have lead, different valves so I don't want to damage the motor.
Thanks

Catalytic convertors are "poisoned" by leaded fuel and your car was factory equipped with one so it was designed to run on no-lead. Zero worries about valve recession etc! Since there's no extra power to be made burning high test (if you can mantain reasonable spark lead), if it doesn't ping on regular there's no reason at all to run anything else.

As I stated earlier... get comfortable with the "normal" sounds and performance with high test, then you'll know if regular is a reasonable substitute. I fully intend to run my 1977 with 1980 engine on regular... I can't afford to feed it better.
