???matching numbers???
I saw an article once on a restomod in one of their magazines. So much for the theory the members are all purists..
Good Luck with your project.
Look up the codes.
Does the car color match?
Does the interior match?
Next.. VIN on the windshield pillar.
Do you find the same "numbers" stamped on the front of the engine?
If yes, and you feel good, then stop.
If yes and you want more pain, then continue.
Now, check the heads, intake manifold.. transmission, carburetor, exhaust manifolds, distributor, starter, alternator, water pump
Do you find the right "numbers" based on research to determine "what" they should be for your year?
If yes, and you feel good enough, then stop.
If yes, and you more pain, then continue.
Ultimately, you will find PLENTY of "stuff" that is not correct.
Just keep looking, but stop when you feel good about what you found.
If you love the eternal search for perfection, which is both elusive and expensive but looks good when you get close, then join NCRS with the rest of us.

The frame was stamped with a partial VIN sequence.
I believe it can be seen, (but with difficulty), on the top of the driver's side frame rail just to the rear of the rear tire.

Alan
There are others out there that state that matching numbers only means that the VIN on the car matches the VIN on the title.
there are a thousand combinations of the definition in between the above 2 statements also encompassing one or all parts of a car. Just make sure when you buy/sell a car, that you and the other person on the opposite side of the transaction have a good discussion on what it means and to put that agreement on the sale contract.
same could also be said of what 'all' or 'original' means.
Yes. Engines, Transmissions, and frames have VIN derivitive stamps.
