I'm considering adding power steering to my 71. I would like some advice from someone who has done the conversion if it was worth the expense. It drives fine as it is but takes a little muscle to park. Thanks
I have a 69 427 coupe with manual steering and it is harder to steer and park at low speed but I also have 255 60 15's on it. I prefer to drive my 72 350 convertible with power steering though it nice at any speed.
I upgraded my 70 454 from manual to power steering years ago. Much easier to maneuver at low speeds. I gathered the parts I needed from various sources. Looking back I would have save some trouble buying a package.
Only gotcha I recall was not realizing I had to change the pitman arm, arm which comes off the steering box. The control valve behaved strangely until I changed out the arm.
Power steering may diminish some road feel, add a bit of vagueness to the steering. I felt it was worth it anyway..
I added GM power steering to my 70 which was a big help. After talking to others, I sure wish that I would have gone with the Steriods kit which is way superior. Good luck !!!
for the money spent , time involved and better handling , either the borg or the steeroids, you wont be sorry . I have the borg but if I'd had the extra $500 at the time , I would have preferred the steeroids, the borg was a lot simpler to install also
