hello, i recently acquired a 68 corvette with the removable hard top. it was wrecked and rebuilt in the 80s, besides the crappy paint job and a few chips its in great condition. theres one problem though, a major problem as far as i see, whoever did the work on it 20 years ago completely fiber glassed over the convertible hatch door! so my question is does anyone know the schematics of the door? so i can make a jig to cut the door back out and refinish it. the hinges and locks are all still on the inside i just don't wanna cut into the main body. any tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Hi TJ,
This sounds interesting.
I'd start by stripping the paint and primer off the lid area.
Perhaps then you can see what was used to do the filling and how far it extends.
If it's something like bondo, the heavy duty paint remover will soften it before it softens the fiberglass and you may be able to scrape the bondo off with a putty knife. Be careful that you don't leave it on too long though.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
