Default New parts

I just got my C3 Last week and know a little bit about mechanics. I already installed a MSD distributor, wires and plugs, K&N filter. But I would like to swap out in intake manifold, headers, and exhaust and maybe the cam. Now I would like to use the stock carb but clean in and rebuild it. Also I would like to keep the stock hood as well. I know some new manifolds require new hoods but which on will take the old carb and hood? Also thinking about hooker headers and magnaflow exhaust. I do have other plans for it but for right now I am starting with that.

The only real advantage to the Performer over your stock manifold will be weight.

What stock intake are you comparing a Performer to?

Hello Adam
The "Performer" is basically the same as a stock cast iron manifold and not really considered a "High rise".

If you are not going to replace the cylinder heads on your stock engine, you shouldn't waste your money replacing the cam or intake manifold. The heads you presently have will not flow much better with those changes. You need to upgrade the heads when (or before) you go for a better cam, intake and exhaust stuff. And just rebuild the stock carb. Nothing you can buy at the "Zone" will perform any better.

L48 or L82?

I have a 78 L82 with a Edelbrock Performer RPM, original carb and no problems with clearance however I have an open air cleaner, not the snorkle.

Original exhaust manifolds, true dual exhausts, cam and I had the car dynoed at 246rwhp last year. Engine has 102,000 miles. That's enough for how I drive. Don't need anymore.

If you have a stock auto L48 then you need to do more reading.

Why the MSD? Did you have problems with the stock HEI?

IMO, upgraded distributor, and especially K&N filters are vastly overrated for a stock or near stock engine. Paper air filters are cheaper, in the long run, and filter better.

Damn ricers and their K&N stuff. Bleeds over into the real hot rod world due to advertising. "Yeah, I got a K&N filter, gives me 10- 50 more HP!" Never any real dyno numbers to back this up. 'But everyone, in the ricer community is running them so it must be good'.

Any NASCAR teams running K&N? If they were, I would expect a flood of advertising touting the fact.

Sorry to be so negative, but you have to do you homework, independent of what your buddies think/have.
