i just got a 77 and it has the chrome outside mirrors, problem is when i drive the wind swivels them out of position,is there a way or trick to make them stay where you put them.they are nice looking mirrors but cant see any way of tightening the swivel part.
To do it properly you need to take the glass out and fix the tension spring lever that presses on the pivot.
There are a few posts on how to do this if you look back
Depending on how loose it is, you can try putting a little medium strength lock-tite into the joint, it will run inside somewhat and may "gum things up enough to help temporarily without being un-do-able
If it's really loose, you may be able to stick a bit of shim stock (beer can) under the ball where you can't really see it and trim it off flush. Again, only a temporary fix.
If the mirrors are like the chrome mirrors on the 68-72 you can soak them in denatured alochol to loosen the mirror. After the mirror is off the rivets that hold the head to the stem just need to be tightened.
I did it to mine and worked great. Use a god quality mirror adhesive to reinstall.
