Isn't there a seal on each piece? New felts usually make the vent ***** a little tight.

The felt seals only get installed in the dash pad hole. If the ***** had the seals, the seals would show when you turn them around. To remove the *****, just turn them 90* so that the [solid] side of the ball is facing outward (air path in ball is facing UP). Then, grab the ball and pull it out of the dash pad. Put it back in the same way.

Make sure you clean the dash pad bores with alcohol or volatile cleaner before you try to stick the seals to them.

That does work with a little persuasion on the ball but normally it is not necessary to replace the felt.

Some of the repro felts are TOO THICK. I made do with mine by using longer screws and by tightening them "just" enough.

The felts need to be replaced when the ***** won't stay put.

I had this issue also. Wilcox replaced with the correct thickness. Worked fine. The kit comes with 4 pieces. I used 1 on each side of the ball and it has a nice snug fit. Vent ball can be repostitioned and it stays. Glue the felt to each half of the mount. Really no issue seeing the felt from the cabin side it's only about 1/8" thick and compresses when tightened.
