Default Possible Partial VIN Stamping Error

Hey guys,

My engine suffix code (not sure exact term) is: V0330CJL. Which translates into V=Flint Engine Plant, 03=March, 30=30th, CJL=1971 Corvette 4 SPD L48 with 270 HP.

My partial VIN (not sure exact term) is C11S115647. Which translates into 1=Chevrolet, 1=1971, S= St. Louis, 115647= 15,647 Vette to roll off the line...

My question is, what does the C stand for in the partial VIN!??

I have searched and searched again, can`t find any answers.

Joe

Hi Joe,
The info I looked at indicates that the 'C' is for Chevrolet, the first '1' for Chevrolet car line, and the second 1 for 71.
Sounds like you're o.k..
Regards,
Alan

I agree with Alan. C for Chevrolet. 71 codes are screwy. Some of the early cars (before the strike) did not have the C; most of them after the strike have the C.

I'm not sure what GM intended for this change, but they dropped it for the 72 model year.
