i currently have grundy on my cars and was thinking of changing to haggerty, has anyone purchased this insurance.if so how do they handle claims and pay accidents.ive been hearing bad things about grundy but would like input on whos the best.i have agreed value coverage and receipts for everything.just worried about getting screwed if i ever need to put in a claim.
I have been with Hagerty for almost 3 years and have the roadside assistance which I have used once with no problem. I did have an accident this past February and they handled the claim quickly and very fairly. So I can give them a BIG thumbs up, however I haven't seen my renewal yet but have heard that the rate is not suppose to increase due to the accident but I'll believe that when I see it.
In addition to this experience I was an independent claims adjuster for more than 15 years so I knew how a claim should be handled and they did everything the same way I would have done it so that made it all the easier for them and for me. My body/painter discussed the estimate with their appraiser pointing out additional repair items that he added and a check was cut within a day or two.
Give Adam Boca a call/try. I just switched from Hagerty to NCM Insurance. Got much more coverage than Hagerty and for a much lower premium. Adam treated me VERY well, answering my many questions and addressing my numerous concerns with leaving Hagerty.
State specific coverage and insurance laws may play into rates, etc.
BTW, other than continually rising premiums (no claims ), I was very satisfied with Hagerty during my 7 years...
If I had known about Adam/NCM, I probably would have gone that direction. As it is, I've had Hagerty for 9 months and have been towed twice. No muss, no fuss. They do all the legwork on finding the nearest/best tow and all I have to do is sit there and wait. They call several times to make sure I'm OK and give me the ETA of my 'ride'.
We'll see if their opinion of ME is the same as mine is of THEM when it comes time to renew, but for the time being, I'm pleased with my coverage, their performance, and their rate.
Hagerty for me also. Had it on my '71 Camaro for 5 years with no issues and now I have it on the Corvette. My father has his '55 Chevy with Hagerty....I think he also has his '72 BMW 3.0 CSI on the policy. He's also happy with Hagerty. I've yet to put in a claim or need a tow. I think my father had to have his '55 towed a short distance once and he was happy with the service. We both think their coverage and rates are good.
Just switched from Grundy to Hagerty myself. Grundy was uncooperative and rude.
I chose Hagerty because they have a good reputation and they're based in my home state. I must say I've been very happy with them. They really do understand collector cars and their owners. And although their rates are not the lowest, they are still reasonable, and I firmly believe you get what you pay for.
All that being said, I will be looking into NCM insurance when my policy comes up for renewal just to compare.
thanks for the info,i have grundy and pay 280 a year for agreed coverage.haggerty wants 680 a year for the same coverage.makes me wonder that if grundy is so cheap am i really getting the best coverage.dont want to find out after i have a loss that i didnt read the fine print.
I have Grundy and just renewed at $136.00 for agreed value of $15000.00, using NADA as per their instructions, for my '81. They quoted me a higher price calling it a high performance car. When I told them that a new Honda has more horsepower than a stock '81 Vette, they lowered the price to $136.00 per year. As anyone who has had Grundy for some time knows, some changes were made last year which were not for the better. When I spoke to their rep last month, she told me that they took it back over again. Never had a claim,, so I can't speak to that side of the issue.
I have Hagerty with roadside assistance . I've used the assistance 4 or 5 times . Had to be flatbedded home or to a shop . Always a nice job , always less than hour wait . I had a claim . Went to Starbucks on a sunday , came out , someone had hit my door . No
damage other than cracked paint . Hagerty came to my house , I settled for 2000 . Dont know why any collector would use antone else . And they have a nice magazine .
NCM for me, but Hagerty was a close second choice. I haven't had any claims, so I can't say one is better than the other for service. But I've known and met several people that HAVE had claims with Hagerty and I have yet to hear a negative story. One issue I ran into with NCM was I really had to pull teeth to put what I felt was reasonable insurance on my 78 Trans Am. I made the mistake of saying what I paid for it (I got a good deal from a guy that was out of $$), and that's all they would insure it for. I had to pull teeth just to get a couple more grand insurnace on it.
NCM seems to be more leanient toward driving to work and out of state and overnight tours, etc which I like, and they allow more miles/year as I recall when I was shopping around. I think most guys think they are going to drive their classic car way more miles than they actually do, so be REALISTIC when you consider the miles you 'might' drive.
