Fixed the clock today....it was just dirty.

It has 3.70 or 3.90 gears in it...close to 3k at 60 mph....( a bit lower than I was expecting)
Im guessing 3.70, and the speedo/tach are off just a tad each.

Still has all the original hose clamps on everything except the upper radiator hose.

Alternator and fan belts are new. AC needs a recharge.

Paint is flaking off the valve covers, and someone bubba'd (plugged and capped) cyl #5. AIR tube. Electric choke added. Theft alarm horn yellow wire is cut.

If I could get the stains out of the vinyl/leather and plastic trim, id be very happy...

Runs good, shifts good, drives good. Cant complain too much I guess.

good luck with your new ride. as you can see from my avatar, i'm part of the pace car crowd also. it looks like someone took pretty good car of that one (at least from the pictures). the interior looks pretty nice for a car that old (i had to replace my entire interior wall to wall). putting mine back together the way i wanted was quite an experience (and a bit time consuming, lol).

enjoy your new car for may happy and safe miles.

just as an aside, the entire corvette production line produced only pace cars from the beginning of march until the middle of may (turning out a total of 6502). if you check your vin number you can get a pretty good general idea as to when your car was produced during that period. mine is 4397 which i figure gets it produced somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd week of april, 1978.

3:70 rear will give you 3400 @70. Auto usually came with 3:55 but back then?. You will need to check it.

Nice looking car

actually in 78 the autos had 3.08 stock rear and i believe the L82 might have had something like 3.37 or so. the 3.08 will be just about 3k at 60.

This is according to the spec info I looked at:
L48, 3spd auto= base 3.08, 3.55 if above 4000'

L82, 3spd auto= base 3.55

If you remove to inspect, look on the rivet head for a three digit code like 843 or 43rd week of 1978.

Jack is stamped 8 1 3 . Its been used, based on the scratches on the baseplate, but otherwise looks new.

For the record, my Dad custom ordered car #0426 a 4spd, L82, with Gymkana and a CB. Sticker (I have the invoice) was $12k..
He ordered it with Cloth interior (Havent seen any with cloth since) but swapped it out for leather a year later. He put a rear hatch and sidepipes on it too. Couldnt do that today....not here anyway.

Can you post a pic of your trim tag? They stopped production of pace cars in early May but you said yours is May 24th.

Interesting.

The end of Pace Car production has caught my curiosity as well...6502 had a date code of I04 while 6102 was I02
