Default 1970 Insulator Plate

Guys...what was the purpose of this on the California bound cars in 1970:

Assist with keeping fuel cooler? Was this an emissions addition?

No idea why they list this as a "California" part. It was available over the parts counter at dealers- in models for the Q-jet and Holley. I've got the Holley version on Ol' Red. The idea is it helps get rid of some of the heat to the carb.

Thanks...were you able to retain your stock hard fuel line to carb without a mod (if you still are using it of course)...and does it work?

I've been thru so many carb/manifold changes it's unreal. I bend and flare lines as I need them.
The original line was for the 3x2's on a L-89, but that's long gone. The line that was on there when I got it came off a tall deck 427 in a C-70 Chevy dump truck. (it's still around somewhere).

To answer your question, it "should" clear the fuel line. GM has a habit of making everything as cheap as possible, which would mean they designed that insulator plate to clear the fuel line.

I have the Rochester insulator plate on my 1970/454. A GM part. It fit's fine with no clearance issue's at all.

Anybody find that the plate works to keep some heat away from the carb?

Reason I'm looking at one is that I'm about to replace the pump to carb line on my 70. The PO had added about a 1/2" gasket stack to the carb base and dumped the stock hard line in the process for about the top six inches or so (cut it out and added an in-line filter and rubber hose on either end). The car came out of Arizona, so I'm wondering if he had hot fuel issues and that led to the stack.

The insulator plate looks like an option for me if I have issues after I swap the stack out for the stock gasket (very thin in 70 on all but the LT-1) and hard line. Thanks for the replies.

from arizona , I'd bet real money his carb. percolated in the summer, mine did. with your location , you may not have the same issues and could probably go to a 1/4" spacer\gasket if needed, and reconnect a hard line or one or the braided lines. My calif. 76 came stock with the 1/4" gasket with the hard bolt inserts for that reason.
hope this helps

Yes sir, my thoughts exactly. He also had some insulation around the hard line as it ran up the block until it terminates and switches to rubber. I have both the stock style gasket and a 1/4" one with the hard inserts that I can use, but I think I'll have to tweak the stock hard line I got from CC to make it work with the latter.
