Default rear window molding

How do I remove rear window molding on a 78. What type of clips are used? What tool to use?

Interior or exterior moldings? A tool is required for the exterior moldings. My advice would be to purchase a copy of the assembly instruction manual (AIM) and make note of the factory clips and their installation before you begin removal.

Work slowly. The intent is to save as many clips are possible for reinstallation of the trim when the time comes.

I believe the rear glass trim on your '78 is the same as my '81....and the best thing to do is to get one of the retainers and then you will see what is required to unhook the trim. I bought a set of small hook tools from Harbor Freight Tools.

HOWEVER....be advised that most likely the retainers will break and need replaced. To replace the retainers, the rear glass must be removed...there is not enough room to get the old out and new in with the glass in place.

The retainers come in a kit...cost about $30 or so for all of them. I think Corvette America has the best price on these. And to get the rear glass out...well...the rear interior trim pieces must come off to avoid damage.

Good luck with yours.

Here is the tool you need... and how to use it. You can get it at your local parts store..

Here is the clip.

+

You use the tool by sliding it under the molding.. if you use the edge you can feel for the clips. When you hit the clip you raise the lever and try to slide the pointed end under the clip. Once under the clip you rock it backward and it should raise and release the clip.. (in a perfect world)

You may want to take another look. You can paint with the original rear glass in the car. Why do work you do not necessarily have to do?
