I got a headlight rebuild kit from an Ebay seller, C3jrltd for $79.99 and it included everything you need to rebuild the headlights, down to brand new adjustment screws and even the plastic standoffs that they screw into. The only thing not included was the headlight assembly casting, the painted shell, the black metal buckets and the headlights themselves. Best of all, all of the springs are stainless steel.
Everything fit perfectly! The only thing I had to cut was one long bushing to make a shorter peice and that was easy.
No instructions though and the FSM and AIM kind of suck as far as showing how it goes together, but scores of pictures during the process made it easy! Esp. the adjustment for aiming the headlights. I was able to count the threads on all four adjustment screws to get pretty darn close.
As far as 'easy', let me clarify this. It was easy from a putting together aspect. Getting the three bolts in the outer fenders, well that was something else! I sat in front of the car, with my chin on the bumper and the two headlights in my face, with my arm buried deep inside the fenderwell, for at least twenty minutes so I could get at those three bolts!
Good to know. Is that same kit sold by some of the C3 aftermarket suppliers? Is the price much less?
I'm not sure about the C3 aftermarket suppliers or the price. I thought it was a 'reasonable' price (at least as far as what's 'reasonable' in the Corvette world....)
What I did like was that everything fit perfectly, the parts were high quality and it went together really well. The only thing you have to be careful of, is that the adjustment standoff bolts are nearly identical to the trim ring bolts. The standoff bolts are straight machine bolts, while the trim ring bolts have a 'cutter' on the end, like a sheet metal bolt.
