Default Interior door panel replacement

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this question. I have a 1970 Coupe which is in need of some new interior door panels and according to the info I have read it should have door panels with vertical door pulls but it is fitted with ones that have horizontal pulls. According to the pics I have seen that would make the panels 1968 ones?
Are the door panels interchangeable? Nothing worse than shipping these halfway round the world to find they wont fit!

Yes. All 68-77 door panels are basically the same. As long as you do have 1970 doors, you'll have no issues.

The horizontal pulls on 68 panels, were attached to the panel, while the 69-77 vertical pulls were attached to the door itself. You have to modify a 68 door slightly, to bolt the vertical pulls to it. Beyond the attachment of the pulls, all of the other differences in panels are cosmetic.

If those door panels have ONLY the horizontal pulls...with no holes in the panels for the vertical pulls...and they are in very good condition, you may have won yourself a new set of 1970 door panels.

When you remove them, if the primary construction material is molded, brown fiberboard, then those are relatively rare, REAL 1968 door panels. You should be able to sell those on eBay for much more than new 1970 panels would cost. And, you would be allowing those '68 panels to be re-joined with a '68 car. Good luck.

Default Door panels

Hi, thanks for the advice,I will pull one of the panels and see if there are holes for the 1970 door pulls The 68 panels are not perfect as someone changed the interior colour from bright blue to black (this car was originally blue on blue)and this was mostly achieved by painting but the biggest issue is the door felts are missing. Under the black paint the door pulls that are fitted are green!

Should not be necessary. 68 door panels do not have vertical pulls. All 68 panels have a finger tip pull built in to the panel. Late 68s also have a grab handle added. Both features are 68 only.

68 late shown; fingertip and grab handle.

68 panels do not have felts on the panels. The felts for 68 mount on the doors.

Thanks for the pic, yes that is exactly what the panels look like in my car (except nowhere near that condition). According to the VIN the car is 1970 so I may as well fit the correct panels. I need to look and see if the holes are there for the handles, the doors could be '68 as well? FWIW the VIN says 194370S which indicates 1970 but the 6 digit serial No doesn't appear to fit in the range I understand belongs to 1970 100001 - 117316 my serial No starts 407...

You're okay. The car line series code for the 70 models was a 4. Your VIN should be 194370S4xxxxx with the Xs standing for your consecutive unit number. All 70s had the 4 following the S.

Here's a 70 door panel; deluxe interior; roll up windows.
