After coating the undercarriage of a 1970 with lizard skin I plan on spraying the frame with semi gloss black and was thinking of doing the floor boards with flat black but if I was to make it look more "correct" should I go with dark grey to reflect the natural fiberglass a little more? Wheel wells I guess will be flat black...or maybe something with more shine?
What about rubberized coating over lizard skin and THEN paint?
Wheel wells, engine compartment walls, and interior black trim items are painted satin black or semi-flat black....not flat black. The undercarriage [bare] fiberglass is sort of a semi-gloss gray, so if you paint that area, that's what you might want to use.
Used LizardSkin then "tintable" U-Pol raptor bed liner to seal the undercarriage... You could tint this gray, but it does have a texture to it, like the LS...

hmmmmm...gray would look very nice indeed with the contrasting semi-gloss frame, just not a lot of options out there for gray automotive spray paint, not a lot of shades either
And Ill probably go with the rubberized undercoating if it can give me a nice smooth texture
If anyone has done their floor with gray....I would love to get a brand and part number and pictures if available. Spent the morning searching for some solutions but not much out there....
How about springs? I believe they originally were grayish? If I cast blast them, do you guys think the finish wont crack due to the spring flex? What type of paint should I use so it travels with the spring movement and does not crack?

Original finish was low gloss med gray on rear hard to find have used gloss and coated with matte clear looks very close. The paint flexes just fine.

I have a 66 that was painted with gloss black Imron when I bought it I had the paint store mix a dark gray and flatten it for me it looks pretty good NCRS judges never caught it! Next time I get it on a lift I'll post a picture.

What's the bedliner material on the floorboards going to do for you? If anything I would think it would reduce your resale when you go to sell it down the road.
