Default ride height

I've got a 78 vette that's a little to high in the rear. I put 8 in bolts in but they didn't do the job. Can I remove a couple of leafs from my 9 leaf spring to lower it more?

I have the left nut 1 1/2 up and the right one 1/2 in up this leveled the rear. Now I've got 29 3/4.

You need to back-out (CCW) the nuts or lengthen the bolts to make the rear go DOWN. If you tighten the nuts, it will raise the rear more.

I can't go any lower on the right side. If I go with 10 in bolts will the spring get to close to the rim? Nobody has answered my question. What will it do if I take a couple of leafs out? Or can I do it?

You should not need to remove leaves from the spring to get the rear to factory height with a factory spring. What size wheels and tires are you running?

Are you taking your measurements before the suspension has settled?

Have you considered the front might be low, giving the appearance the rear is high?

If 10" bolts won't fit, check if 9" bolts will fit. I put a nut on the 10" bolts, cut off an inch, cleaned up the end of the threads, and then took the nuts off to clean up the threads. I have 18" wheels though. I think 10" bolts would have fit inside them.

Chevrolet specs a stock ride height in the rear by measuring the relative heights of the inner and outer lower camber strut rod bolts. Measure with a full tank of gas and nobody aboard. Generally, about 2 to 2 1/8 inches is fine. At that height, the half shafts should be very close to horizontal, with the suspension fully settled. Some guys drive the car around the block a few times to settle it. But if you push it forward and back about five feet a few times, that could be enough.
The spring bolts should be EXACTLY the same length on each side. If that does not level the car left to right, something else is wrong.

I've got 15 L60s on the rear. I've moved the car around in the driveway and got 1/2 tank of gas and the half shafts aren't level. The pumpkin is a little high. If I even the nuts the left side is 3/4 in lower then the right. The front is off by 1/2 in from left to right. Tire pressure is even all around and I'm on level ground. Front tires are 235 15s. I hate to start screwing around with the front springs but it seems the hole left side is low.

TheSkunkWorks also was good enough to post a link that will be very helpful.

If you look at figure 11 on page 10, you will see the “D” height. You have to properly set your D height. You may need longer bolts. I purchased 10 inch bolts, set the D height and then cut the excess bolt off.
