My Winter Project - Hardtop
The cold weather came early this year and that sort of sapped the Corvette enthusiasm out of me. I did manage some 1,700 miles this driving season without any significant mechanical problems. I tended to stay within a $100 tow of home and thus missed a number of lengthier Club road trips.
July saw this event so my car is now brand new again.

I also in July had my old carbon steel (and rusty) exhaust system with the huge stock mufflers replaced with the Corvette Central "Hideaway" mufflers and aluminized pipes. Did the exhaust manifold studs, donuts, and heat riser as well. The extension sleeve for the driver's side donut was MIA which explains why donuts were burning out regularly. Initially I felt the new exhaust was too loud but I learned to live with it. And the local constabulary left me alone.

In June I had a Gary R. blueprinted steering box installed. Steering is very tight and the car tracks nicely. I thought of Borgeson but wimped out on the steering column collapse. No regrets. Gary provides a fine product.

This is one of my last drives. The foliage is changing colors. Haartz cloth top is up and heater core being tested (it works). I replaced that **** three years ago. Just peeking through on the left is 24 Sussex Drive, the residence of the Prime Minister of Canada.

What do I do with the hardtop in the garage? I don't know but I have several months to consider options.
FWIW the code on the hardtop glass translates to the following. My thanks to the NCRS folks.
AS-2 = the American Standard specification rating for type and clarity for side door/vent and coupe rear glass
Y = October
L = 1974
So probably for a 1975 but that is OK with me.
I'm getting close to 90% completion on this car which means - as per my history - I am getting ready to sell. Did it with my 1979 and 1967. The restoration can be more fun than the driving. We shall see come spring.
