Default lock pillar panel rivets

Id like to remove those two ugly lock pillar panel rivets ( on my 78. Body is off frame and I have left panel removed) What could be used to secure the panel? I would imagin GM put them there for better securing panel. Any thoughts? Frank.

You might want to check the AIM. I believe the rivets hold a bracket on the back side of the panel.

yes, I have one. I would just like to get rid of the two rivets on each of the lock pillar panels.
