dolores as first seen way back in july 2010 stripped of her dignity and badge by common trinket thieves.but alas a new owner was to come on the scene and replenish the glory and pride ensconced within.her badge ceremoniously restored and painstakingly fitted her glory was restored.that 8 year old boy who nudged on his daddy's pant leg at the flats fixed tire place looked up to his dad and said,"dad look it's a stingray",would never have come to pass.

Here is some more complex irony. I own a 1968 Corvette, but I do not own a Stingray (apparently). My sister in law most definitely owns a Stingray (she frequently takes us for rides in it), but she does not own a Corvette.

I don't think anyone is belittling any of the cars.

Laughing at each other as humans, yes.

You drew the line at 76/77 in your post so are '68 vettes Stingrays even though they don't have the nameplate ?

Me: Well, never mind it's a 327 350HP.
Him: Yea those Stingrays where all big blocks.
Me:

So if you put Stingray on your car.. it must be bad ***!
At least the guy didn't tell you that you that your tail lights and back up lights were all wrong!

GM's '68 sales literature for the all new Corvette referred to it as a Stingray although there wasn't a badge to be found on it anywhere to back up that claim.

So is it or is it not? A rose by any other name....

Yes, it is bada**! With or without emblem.

That is as bad as adding SS to any non SS car or putting Harley emblems on a Honda.

Personally, I think every model of Corvette is impressive. Stingray or no. My 75 Stingray has been a passion. But when I got it, the emblem should have been StungRaw. She was worn out and weak. She's a little quicker now.

Truth is: your car, your money, your choice... Unless you are trying to misrepresent something for a sale.

While I'd wonder why someone would put a 454 sticker on a 350 aircleaner and what else they were trying to be deceptive about, I'm not sure I'd worry much about a badge or hood ornament so long as I liked what I was buying/seeing.

I'm putting a removable rear window in my 75. If it were a historically relevant, rare time capsule I would never touch it for respect of the original... But something like a 75 that was neutered by the industry and should never have left the plant with less than 200 HP, SHOULD be changed if I want it to be, and want to spend my mullah on improved performance.... And the flat window SHOULD come out, if I want it to, and want to spend my mullah on improved whatever.

Hotrodders have been making tribute cars and resto-mods of all kinds for years, changing engines and badges in honor of the beast they wish they had. If somebody thinks the Stingray looks cooler, they should go for it. I like the flags better personally, but the Stingray is already there.

I did drill the flags into my air cleaner housing, because I liked the way it looked.

So are you saying her boat is beautiful and curvy, or that our cars are all wet?

Put '68 non-stingray gills on a 'real' stingray ? Doesn't that make it not a stingray anymoe ?

I never understood what Chevy was thinking with this whole "Corvette Stingray" thing anyway.... I mean, a "Corvette" is some kind of a small, fast sailing ship, and a "Stingray" is an ugly fish. It's like two completely different, unrelated names on the same car.
Like "check out my new "Corvette Cuda", or whatever. WTF?

Cuda was already taken and the marketing guys didn't like guppy.

Plymouth couldn't afford the full word Baracuda anymore so they shortened it to Cuda as part of budget cuts.

I have no idea how they got a saltwater pike from Valiant.
