removable hardtop paint question

I guess I didn't ask my question very well. If a hardtop came covered with black vinyl from the factory was the top painted body color before the vinyl was added? I'm looking at getting a hardtop for my C3. I want one covered in black vinyl. I need to know it I should paint the top body color before covering with vinyl. Thank

If you intend to install the vinyl yourself, follow the instructions in the AIM. Pay particular attention to the areas where the vinyl was trimmed for fit.
You will also need to set the door glasses per instructions in the AIM.
