Default 1981 lower radiator hose

While pulling the right side upper and lower control arms off today, I noticed my lower radiator hose is sitting on the frame. Is this normal? It has an aftermarket tag on it so it's been replaced. It doesn't look like it's rubbing a hole in it, but it has me worried. What brand hose should I replace it with?

Thanks

Should be some clearance so not to rub, can't go and check mine right now but I know I do have some clearance and mine has been swapped out. Probably someone used what they got hold of....at minimum I would placed something between the hose and the rail to cushion it.

I wouldn't worry a whole lot about it. Just keep an occasional eye on it, as you have been. No use draining the whole system, getting green coolant everywhere, undoing the clamps and wrestling with a hose, when you could just leave it alone. The motor moves very little and in relation, the frame not at all.

As far as a replacement, you might want to get one from a reputable source or bring the old one with you, to the auto parts store when you replace it, so you could 'size it up'.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Though the hose is very close to the frame, it should not be touching it.

The correct lower hose, is still available from Chevrolet. The part number is 379933, and the list price is around $50. Most of the Corvette vendors, stock the GM hose, as well as a generic one.

You should also be able to get an aftermarket one, through your local parts store. The same lower hose was used from 77-82.

Thanks everyone. I'll pick up the GM hose since I work at a dealer and get a good discount. It'll be easier to replace it now since the A/C compressor and everything is out of the way.

Gates, Goodyear or Dayco are top of the line hoses and belt companies and at least one would be sold at a local parts house...If one is close to touching somewhere, merely twisting the hose will change its configuration giving adequate clearance......... works for both hoses,,,,,top or bottom

I got the GM hose for $35. not bad.

The one that's on there now still has the part number tag on it. I'll look it up, I bet it's for an earlier year corvette.
