Easy question, which of these air cleaner looks better? Both are Edelbrock, and will fit under the hood of my '81 Vette w/ the RPM Air-Gap manifold. My old 14" drop base cleaner wont fit with the new manifold, so I have these 2 choices.
Option 1 screams "1980's" to me, so I would pass on that version. One problem with that style is a single backfire and the foam element is toast.
Option 2 (I have a larger diameter version) is very overused. If it hadn't come with our car I wouldn't be using one. I'll be switching it out to a plain chrome lid with no branding, which given your valve covers (no branding) and how clean your engine is would be a better choice IMO.
Here is one I'm very interested in, not sure if it will fit though...
Tell me about this one ...... I really like it and it looks like it would solve some hood clearance issues ............. I have a 78 with a GM 350 / 330 crate engine.

I don't know that much about it other than it is made by Holley and goes for about 300 bucks. But looks really cool. My Dad had it on his '34 Ford custom show car. But from looking at it, it really looks like it will fit. I just wish I could find someone on here that has it so I can confirm. I guess I *could* be the guinea pig
I'm not really crazy about either one. There are "spacers" available that go between the top of the carb and the base of the air cleaner. GM even used them on trucks with big blocks back in the day. Why not experiment with some cardboard (or something similar) and see how thick of a spacer you would need to clear the carb? Then you can use your 14" drop base. You can always go with a shorter air cleaner element (K&N builds elements to custom dimensions if need be) to make up the difference in hood clearence so everything fits. Just throwing that idea out there. It may or may not help.
The drop base interfered with the demon carb, otherwise it would fit (just barely).
Yeah, so make it fit, that's all. Wait a minute.......this isn't about what will fit at all, is it? You want to be able to see the carb, don't you? I don't blame you, it's a cool looking carb!
What intake manifold are you running? performer RPM Airgap? I think a dropped base air cleaner with a 3" element will fit under the hood. And, I would bet 300 of your dollars that the Holley air cleaner will fit, too. The directions say to cut the carb stud 1 5/8" above the air ncleaner gasket on the flange, I think that should fit under the hood, barely. I think it's a little too wacky looking for my taste, but that's what makes the world go 'round. It'd be a boring world if we all liked the same things. I wonder if you can get bigger filter elements? they look kinda small.

Yes, its the RPM air gap (polished version). And thanks!! I like the way the holley
a c looks, but parting with the $300 is the part that makes me sad, other wise it would be on there by now.
