Default Power window conversion - experiences?

Hey Guys,

I am considering Eckler's power window conversion kit and I was wondering if anyone's had any experience with either the specific kit or with changing a manual window to power?

I have to rebuild the doors anyway, so I figure why not upgrade!

Thanks!

Chris

I would make sure the regulators are the US made regulators.. that would be a must. The recent batch of the imported ones have the wrong rollers on them.

I would also make sure the motors are the square type and not the rounded ones.

I put all this in a cart on my site with the US Regulators to see where it fell..

Power Window Motor New RH 58-82

Power Window Wire Conduit. 2 Required 68-81 2x

I did this on my '71 a few years ago. Easy conversion. In my case my manual regulators were worn out so since I had to replace them anyway I just converted to power.

I bought original (used) regulators on ebay. New motors (unfortunately I could only find Chinese ones). New wiring harness, switches, relay & fuse. I also replaced the door panels for other reasons so that worked out well. The non-PW center console is marked on the bottom for the switch cutouts.

Edit: This should be added to Willcox's list:

He didn't post a year but I just looked at his old threads and it seems to be a 73. So the harness would be this one.

Haha - nope. In my user tile, it says '69 Coupe' (maybe those can be turned off?). Link there to pics of the car, too.

My doors have to come completely apart and I think I have to address some issues with the outside skin and put new guts and interior panels on them. So yep - my reward is gonna be power.

Thanks for the input - glad to hear it's not an impossible task!

I did this on my '68 and am glad I did. It was relatively easy. I pieced mine together over time with new and used pieces that I found at swap meets, Ebay and Corvette vendors as well as 2 rebuilt Delco motors from a local auto parts store.

The hardest part may be drilling the holes in the doors for the wiring harness. I had the doors off at the time so it was easy. I'm not sure how you'd do this without removing them.

Use the AIM to guide you through the harness routing, hole location, etc. It helped a lot for this job.
