Default Please help I need opinions

I'm looking for opinions on what I should do with the paint color of my car it's a 1974 Corvette the car is currently and primer and all body parts removed * and I'm trying to figure out if I should go to the original color or change the color I do not want to hurt the value of the car that color of yellow looks kinda faded to me. The motor is not the original but it is out of 1974 chevy is a 350 that what came in the car the transmission is automatic...the original color is 56 bright yellow

Color choice is entirely up to you; it's your car. If the car was otherwise original, a non-stock color change could potentially hurt the value. Since the car is not original, a non-stock repaint is not likely to hurt you too much.

there are those that don't care if the color is correct, and those that do care. If you want to appeal to both types of buyers come selling time, then you need for the car to be the correct color.

what the car is worth depends on its originality, condition and desirability. changing the color impacts its originality and desirability. to what degree, I don't know.

Although it seems a little ordinary on most cars I'm always surprised by how incredibly good looking silver is on a rubber bumper C3.

Since it's not a numbers matching car, the quality of the paint job is much more important than the color itself. Go whith whatever color you like, as long as it's not something wierd like "plum crazy purple" or "gotta-have-it-green" Those could hurt your resale value by limiting your market to color blind people!

You mean like the colours I used on my car?:

Most people who followed my restoration said this combination sounded bad but they really liked it when they saw it.

Priya, that's AWESOME! I love people who make a personal statement with their cars. But a paint job like that is likely to be polarizing. Some will like it, some won't. That could work against good resale value on a Corvette. As for what it does to an AMC, I'm not sure.

I purchased a brand new '74 Corvette with that yellow color. Guess what?! It looked faded-out when it was new!! After having the car for 30 days, I didn't like it anymore.

So, my suggestion would be for you to paint it whatever color that really 'turns you on'. If you are considering 'future value': the difference between what you can expect if you keep the original [bland, unexciting] color and a more desirable color, would be "nil" IMO.

I agree, I'm not suggesting he paint his car these colours, I posted this just for humor. People warned me about resale on my Eagle, but that was not a concern for me, if I ever sell it (no plans to) any loss in sale price is well worth it to me to have a car with the colours that appeal to me the most.

We "mid year C3" owners suffer from the next to worst general resale values behind the early C4s. The quality of the paint on your car will determine added value much more than the actual color used. These beasties are expensive to redo so unless you just adore hot pink or Kawasaki green, it will be worth more whatever color it gets.

ummmm,,, i don't know.... how about Blue??? works for me.

the truth is paint it something that you like that looks normal. At this point it is not gonna hurt the value. just get a good quality paint job and it will help the value more than a correct color maco job!!

Color is similar to wheels, its subjective to the owner....whatever you like will be the result which may or may not be as another person....Thats why there is so many colors......

You should feel free to paint it what ever color you like. And the color that makes you say to your self " Now THATS my vette " when you walk up to it.

I'd try to get a color that goes well with the already installed interior. Had a sunfire yellow 66 in a previous life but I never cared for the C3 yellows.

Since you already have the brown interior installed that does limit your color choises.

Why not stick with yellow? Find a shade that's close to the original but more vibrant.
As others have said the quality of the fresh repaint is what will help sell the car. If the paint and interior are new detail the rest of the car as best as possible. The less the car needs the more desirable it becomes to potential buyers. Good luck with the sale.

If you are going to sell the car, getting a paint job will only lose you money....unless you are doing it yourself. And, if that's the case, paint it the same body color so you don't have to fool around with the door jambs, hood surround, etc. But, please, use decent paint, so it isn't a 'horror case' for the next guy.

One of my brothers had a '76 that was bright yellow with brown leather. I know everyone sees color differently, but it looked anything but faded IMO. I called it retina burning yellow Maybe there are differences between the '74 and '76 colors? Don't think I've seen a yellow '74 in person, and photos can really be deceiving.

I have a 74' too and it came in a beautiful Dark Metallic Brown. It really glows nicely in the sunlight. I plan on keeping it this color too! With your brown interior, you won't have any problems matching up, that's for sure!
