weatherstripping woes
If the weatherstrip you installed has this 'gutter' extension on the a-pillar strip it needs to be positioned in just the right place so the gutter can 'lay' over the top/forward area of the door weather strip and make the required seal as the door begins to close.
I had to reposition the gutter slightly and even trim it a little bit to get the door to close past the point that you describe.
If the gutter is squishing against the door strip you feel it as resistance when closing the door. Could this be your problem?

We had a car in our shop about three weeks ago that had the imported version of the door main and pillar weatherstrip on it and the rubber seemed to grab the pillar gutter as the door closed. It was almost like the end block on the door main was too large.. We were doing a door glass adjustment for the customer so we re-adjusted the pillar, replaced both with the crc brand and the issue went away.

The rubber used to make the gutter extension is much more dense and harder than the door weather strip at that position.
If the 2 are binding, the door weatherstrip is quite quickly abraded and torn by the gutter.
