Default 1976 Service Manual

Hey guys, I'm about to head back to the US and I finally have some time to work on my car so I've been searching online for the right manuals to help me along the way. From what I've gathered the Assembly Instruction Manual from GM is a great resource as well as the GM Factory Service Manual, however I am having a difficult time finding a reliable service manual, as most of them appear to be Service/Overhaul supplements (although I'm not entirely sure as to what it supplements). Would anybody be able to help point me in the right direction to what I should be looking for? And do you have any suggestions for any other manuals to buy? Im not looking to do a complete rebuild, just basic service repairs and a problem with a stuck parking brake.

Thanks

For my 75, I had to get the 74 gm service manual and the 75 supplement. 76 may be similar.

You can get these pretty much everywhere. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&t....1.qubwAD8w_Ls

I have a '76 and this is exactly what I had to do. I rarely even have to look at the supplement, as almost anything that I need to look up is the same as the '74. So spend your money on a '74 manual first.

One thing that the manual doesn't cover is the rebuild of things like the rear end. For that you need a component overhaul manual.

Also the wiring diagrams from neither manual seemed to match up to my car.

The A.I.M., the Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual, and the Chevrolet Chassis Overhaul Manual are the prerequisite documents for C3 DIY owners.

The Overhaul manual shows detailed photos and instructions for removing, disassembling, rebuilding & reinstallation of all major components and accessory components in the vehicle (engine, trans, differential, steering system, alternator, starter & solenoid, A/C compressor, brake master cylinder, water pump, carb).

It is almost always simpler and less expensive to rebuild the original components, rather than just exchange them for aftermarket rebuilt pieces.

Sorry, I'm still a bit confused. Right now should I be looking for the 1976 AIM Manual, '76 Chassis Service Manual, '76 Chassis Overhaul Manual, and the 1974 Service Manual? So far I've only been able to find the 1976 CSM and COM Supplement, so I'm guessing I should get the '74 version of those books as well as the supplement. Or is that completely wrong?

this seems to be a solid deal: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...Product_Viewed

Or is this more along the lines of what you guys were talking about: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...Product_Viewed

Those will serve you well, add an AIM )assembly instruction manual) for 76 and that's it!!

You should not need the 74 material for your 76.

Mike...

Some of the later-year C3's didn't have a complete Chassis or Overhaul manual made for them. They just used the most recent complete manual and added a 'supplement' manual of details that were a bit different for that specific model year. It was a money saving idea...only print up what is different for that model year.

I don't have which years did that, but I think '76 might have been one of them.

But, the aftermarket vendors that sell these manuals will know which manuals are valid for any model year.

That's what I was saying. 1974 was the most recent manual, with a supplament for updated information. I've only had to crack open the supplament once or twice, as most of the info in the '74 manual stil applies.

Bom,

I have an extra set of the '74 and supplement manuals if you are interested. Still in plastic.

PM me.
