Ok I have a 1977 Vette, Numbers match, something odd here the rear deck looks like there were grills there. After looking under the deck there is the actual indentation where the vent would be and drain. I cannot find a 1977 vette. with Rear Vent Grills, also looks like there was a luggage rack once upon a time. I looked for tell tale signs of body work no where can i see splicing of any sort. Does anyone know if a 77 had grills on deck?????
Hi Frank,
I believe the 76 model year was the last year for the vents on the rear deck.
Did a/c become standard in the 77 model year? A/C cars didn't have the ventilation vents from 68 on.
Regards,
Alan
 Ok then the rear had to be replaced once upon a time. Looking under the lid is the actual molded cutout never been cut. I did pull out the hard epoxy from the top and discovered the indentation, When I start striping it down i should see if any work was done. If a rear splice was made where would be the most logical splice be made?. I am baffled, Any other tell tale signs I could look for like T-Top Post ? I will probably install the grills anyway just for the looks!

One place to look, is under the carpet. A lot of old Corvettes have been rear ended, and had whole rear clips put on them. When this is done, they're usually seemed down the center of the car.
The other likely place to seem a rear end repair, would be along the factory bonding strip seems. These are located an inch or two down from the fender peaks, running the length of the fender, from the door jam to the rear bumper.

My E76 did not have them, but it came with a/c.

So what was your final outcome? I too am restoring a 77 and my rear deck also has the two indentations for the grills, and its the late 1977. I cannot find 77 grills either. Thinking of just trying the 76 grils.
