Having problems getting a recently purchased 1982 coupe running. The car was wrecked in 2008 and has been sitting since then, engine turns over, starts on ether and I can hear the fuel pump cycle on and off as it should when the ignition is turned on. Everything seems to point to the oil pressure switch, so my question is, do I need to change it or can it be reset? Can I bypass it to test the theory?
temporarily bypass it, see if thats the problem, if it is, replace it... ..its just a safety feature, in case of accident, with the key on, the electric pump will not continue to run and pump gas to a fire if theres no oil pressure
How do you bypass it, assuming a jumper wire between 2 of the three wires? Which ones?
I'm not sure if something is messed up on mine but the car runs with it simply unplugged. Its a switch, so the car is set to run when you crank, if it senses low oil pressure it kills the pump. So either its stuck on kill from the get go or something else is wrong.
My engine runs with the sender disconnected also. Found this out when checking the OP manually. Does the CHECK ENGINE light come on? Are you getting fire to the plugs?
check engine light is on, car is firing with ether. I unplugged the switch (three prong, just below distributer, driver side) and it still will not run.

Its something else. Are the injectors firing? Even for a second when you turn the key to on?
When you turn the key to on you should hear the fuel pump for a second or two followed by a funny noise from the injectors. It's the prime pulse. You don't need to crank the car for this to happen, just turn the key to on.
The start sequence is something like this, turn on key you should hear the pump run for a second or two, you should dear a buzz from the injectors. You can actually see gas being emitted from them.
Fuel filter ??? these things are finicky about fuel pressure and any loss of it can cause a start/ run issue. Do you have a GM factory service manual? if not get one. It has the best diagnosis instruction of any.
Go and replace the filter, it doesn't cost much and probably needs it anyway.
If you get it running with ether everything else should be okay. It's likely the fuel filter or fuel pump. Assuming the TBI fuses are good and the connectors at the ECM are good.
well, checked the ECM fuses, both at the battery and in the panel, both good, cleaned them up and pot them back in, checked fuel injection fuses in panel, same thing, still just cranks. Did not hear a buzz from the injectors after cleaning everything up. One more thought, the throttle mechanics were pretty stuck when I began, had to lube them pretty much to get things working, still does not seem like the pedal is coming all the way up, would this make a difference?

The pedal position shouldn't make a difference.
I guess you need to narrow this one down. The question is whether its the fuel pump or something else.
Find out if the injectors are firing. Put a test light on the plug to the injectors and see if it flashes as you crank.
