So I am new to the car world in terms of fixing up cars and their individual components. I bought a 75 Stingray for about $5,000 but when I checked the vin number through multiple online sites that will tell you the year make and model it says that my Corvette is not a Stingray just a coup t top. My only problem is that I bought it with two previouse owners and the second was a close relative but the original owner had it registered and purchased the car as a Stingray. I'm told that Stingrays don't have engine locks like my car does. So what do I believe? The vin or the registration.
All 1975 Corvettes are Stingrays. There is nothing special, different or anything else about Stingrays. Coupe, convertible, L48 or L82, all Stingrays.
The VIN has nothing to do with it. If it says Stingray on the registration, its just because someone chose to include that. They are all Corvette Stingrays in 1975.
Probably the most common misunderstanding out there in the general public about Corvettes, right there. Nothing wrong with your car, friend.
I wish I had a Dollar every time tells me about the Corvette their Dad/Uncle/Brother etcetera had and then add "But they had a Stingray, not the regular Corvette.
I'll take a wild stab at it...Didn't GM issue a steel cable restrainer at some time in the 70s, due to a rash of motor mounts breaking up? Maybe the OP means one of those.
Of course an "engine lock" is only one 'b' from engine block....

I'm wondering if he is talking about the alarm switch on the fender? I was thinking he may have meant "block," but I think he knows that all corvettes had an engine block.

A couple of minutes after I typed my $0.02 worth, that thought crossed my mind!
Thank you all for your help and Easy Mike I found those books and read through them. I still need to do more research. It is a fender alarm cause I tested it out and sure enough it works.
