This is wrong. Unlike your 67 and 72, CherokeeWarrior's 78 Corvette did not use a full size spare. Modern radials can cause a problem in a 63-67 tub, but work just fine in a 68-82 spare tire tub.

78-82 Corvettes came with a Goodyear "Polyspare" P195/80D15 temporary spare. The tire was mounted on a 15x5, plain steel wheel. Some 78 Corvettes have been found with a spare wheel painted bright yellow, though most 78's and all 79-82's came with a black painted rim.

To the best of my knowledge, the P195/80D15 temporary spare, is no longer made. The wheels and tires do turn up, as there were over 200,000 Corvettes that came with them. As a spare, to use in a pinch, you'd probably be okay to use one of these 30+ year old tires. They were only designed to get you far enough to have your flat repaired anyway, and were rated for a maximum of 50MPH. P195/80R15 radial road tires are available, and would serve as a perfectly good spare tire, mounted on an original 78 15x5 spare wheel.

Regular Corvette 15x8 rally wheels and stock P225/70R15 tires, will fit in the 78 spare tire tub also. The optional P255/60R15 tires will fit too, but they cause the spare tire tub to hang rather low. It's fine to throw a flat 60 series tire in there to get somewhere to repair it, but not recommended to keep one in there on a regular basis. The tubs tend to get damaged in normal use as it is, and a 60 series tire, increases the likely hood of damaging the tub on a bump or driveway.

My 69 has the lock and rubber boot. The spring inside of the lock has a tendency to stick and makes it hard to unlock. A little WD 40 does wonders.

My 72 also did not come with a key for the lock. I removed the glove box lock and took it to a locksmith. He was able to find the GM key code on the lock and punched out the key. It works!

I just opened mine and found this inside. Unused spare tire and wheel. 1978.

A 1968 came with a F-70 and mine has never been used....we did pull it down to see what it was a couple of years ago. However it didn't have any air ....I do have several Jacks and don't know which is which...never used those either....
