Crutchfield has some really nice retro-fit, up-grades at very affordable prices. And the install instructions are to die for.
I up-graded in both my 73 L-48 and my 91 chevy pick-up. The head units I bought have a USB port on the front. I have a flashdrive with almost 4 gigs of music on it, so now I never have to listen to all thoses dumbass DJ's and their dumbass commercials anymore.
The 68 center bezel is a one year only part. If you have an original bezel, my advice would be not to cut it for aftermarket stereo fit. Purchase a reproduction bezel already sized for aftermarket systems.

If your Delco radio works, I suggest that you just leave it alone. If it doesn't, then your choices are:
1. get it repaired.
2. have your radio head rebuilt to include "new guts" that will give you the features you need and still look and act like the orginal radio. See this website for examples of how this is done...
3. install whatever you want in the bezel. If you cut your bezel up to fit a new DIN style radio head, you will lose a couple of C-notes in value on the car.
There are some fantastic combo units manufactured today at a very reasonable price. I'm not big on "originality" and have owned my 1969 Corvette for over 40 years. The modifications I've made suit my taste and just may suit yours. My stereo is a combo am-fm, cd, dvd, bluetooth, GPS, TV, ipod and backup camera and it was all under $300. It requires you modify your gauge panel and for some guys, that's a big "no-no". My unit is strictly custom and I am fairly handy. I love the GPS. I fabricated a housing for the unit and completely reupholstered my interior myself. Here are a couple of pix. You can see more of the car in my post entitled "I'm Back" from about a week ago.
I purchased my car in 1970 with less than 4,000 miles on the odometer. It had the original Delco AM-FM radio which never worked at all. The very first "mod" was to put in a better radio. That was way back in 1970. This is the fourth or fifth unit and it is by far the best. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I own a 1968 vert. I want to put a very nice stereo in it! Any good ideas or projects you can share!?
Why? Use any money you have to put a sound system in the garage where the car is kept. .... IMHO, your '68 should supply all the sounds you'll ever need.
Hi, I am going to upgrade my stereo as well. I am unfamiliar with the USB / Memory stick setup. Can you scan and see whats on there, or does it just play wherever it left off??? I saw some retro stereos with that feature. Thanks, PW
Just be careful with those retro stereo replacements , read reviews before you purchase as there is good ones but a lot of junk out there.
Like Mike said, I wouldn't cut the original bezel if I were you!
