The roof panel on my'79 looks like it has room for a third brake light in the middle (Dole light). I can't find anything in any book to show this third light in the middle. Anybody familiar with this?
Im not sure what you are asking with this, did any 79's come with a third brake light?, not that I have ever seen or heard of, could you put a third brake light in the middle top of the rear window?, yes easily, I have thought about doing it to mine but I like as much rear view as I can get from the middle mirror and I am just not prepared to lose any vision back there so for me its a "no".

Cheers, Dennis.
Dennis,
You could always put two HMBLs in, one in each upper corner of the window and they would not block your rear view. Would look a bit daggy, but not as bad as a smashed in rear end 'cause the bloke behind you didn't see your factory brake lights.
When i bought my car it had a third brake light mounted on the roof. It didnt look horrible but I didn't like it so it was removed when the car was repainted. That may be an option...
I think it got wet and warped. I wet it down and put a cinder block on top of it to straighten it out ( I guess I could have spent $249.95 to replace it...
I'm in the middle of a resto-mod on my 78 and installed a 86 third brake light and painted the car steel city gray. With the template they gave was no problem but it comes with a black box with 3 wires. I know to trace the rear light wires but how do I not have the 3rd light blink when the turn signals are on?

Yea, I am doing a custom my this one and I thought I was the only one that thought about this, guess not, but I may be the only one that had done it, see picture. Shopman1:
Why I did it, well, because I am having fun with these custom, and its different. I think we all want to have something different.

Ummmmm, no, not in Australia, we have to use the inside lights as indicators in amber, we can't have red indicators, well not legally anyway. I converted my reverse lamps to amber indicators to get ADR's (Australian Design Rules) engineers approval and put after market reverse lamps under my number plate. Looks OK but the reverse lights just dont look factory, heaps brighter though I must admit. Some people make amber lights just to get the approval and then swap them back but I know of two Vette owners who got caught doing this and faced heavy fines so I will live with my conversion.
