Default 75' Telescopic Steering Wheels Problems

I have a 75' Vette and my steering wheel slides forward and backwards, I was wondering if anyone knows why this might be happening. I would imagine there's some type of locking mechanism that's broken, thanks ahead of time.

There is a little "ear", for lack of a better word, that should be just behind and above the horn button. It rotates left and right, to unlock and lock the wheel in the desired position. Try moving it to see if it locks the column in position.

......and if that doesn't do the trick, you can remove the horn button, etc., find a locking nut (for want of a better word) that is held in by a small screw. Remove the screw, SLIGHTLY tighten the lock nut and re-install the screw in a different hole if necessary. Test for tightness of the column by turning the "ear" from left to right, and adjust the locking nut accordingly.

Regards from Down Under.

Moving that tab to the right should lock it.

That item does wear and, eventually, become a bit loose. To adjust it, move the tele/locking tab all the way to the left; remove the horn button; remove the retaining screws for the tele/locking nut; turn that nut exactly one increment clock-wise where the retaining screws can be placed; install the retaining screws and the horn button. Your tele wheel should now lock properly when the tab is moved all the way to the right.

A 75 foot steering wheel is awfully long - probably not original.

Everything that you need to adjust that telescope feature in your C3 1965 thru 1968 Telescoping or your 1969 thru 1982 Tilt & Telescoping steering columns.
