Rear Engine Corvette
In 1989 when I was freshman at the University of Michigan I visited North campus (the engineering school) and saw some cars displayed there one fall night. I was stoked, called my boys at other schools and told them I saw a rear engine vette. some kind of concept or racer or something.
Several of my friends are vette guys, and predictably, I got laughed off the phone. When we gathered for reunion this or party that, they'd always ask if I drove the rear engine vette there. They had me convinced I must have had a few too many barley pops or mistook it for another car or somehow got freshman confusion.
Well, tonight I was watching a recording of day three at Kissimmee for the Mecum auction and lo and behold up rolls a rear engine vette. I almost flew off the couch. I just made a dozen of the funniest calls of my life, with bona fide "I told ya so" moments in each.
The car in question was a 1985 Chevrolet Corvette GTP Replica made street legal and auctioned for $83,000.
So I'm not completely crazy.....

Zora Duntov was an advocate of a mid-engine Corvette and had a couple of prototypes. There were also rear engine prototypes. The Corvette history coffee table books almost always mention these cars and usually have pics.
