Definitely have a look under the car before making any offers.... put the car up on a lift and look for rust, crash damage, bad rubber as was pointed out in another post, leaks etc. Take someone with you that knows C3's
I have a bronze 68 also, would be good to see another one on board, good luck!
I dunno if its a steal. Sounds like it needs some expense to fix the paint. It doesnt matter if it used to be a 427... its an NOM car now, period. And no matter what impression you are under, (sounds like you have convinced yourself) its not a side pipe car, no '68 is.
Thats not taking account for 1 more dollar of work we cant see without pictures or better inspection.
If you like the car its not a huge investment so the price isnt awful, but I dont see the "steal" at those numbers for an NOM coupe that needs body/paint work at the very minimum.

Have pics on e-mail acct, but how do I up load to replies
Put pics in album section under 1968 corvette. These were taken recently and interior is now beige. Also in the pics, it can be seen where front end was repainted but panel painted not blended. That was what I was describing about being repainted.
Thanks for any suggestions on price being asked.

Off-road exhaust does not mean sidepipes, just means a different exhaust at the mufflers. Here's a good thread to read up and educate yourself on off-road exhaust on '68s.
Please take (most of the) advice here to heart, we are here to help. Trust this knowledgeable forum over what a seller is trying to tell you, his interest is getting your money.
What do you think about price of $13000 or should I offer lower after I do an undercarriage inspection on frame/trailing arms/bushings/oil leak from rear seal? The only thing original up front are heads/intake. He has a partial buildsheet & has owned the car for 30 years.
--Sidepipes had me hoping I'd see corvette sidepipes/covers....and rocker panels.
--Why a front end repaint? Accident? And why didn't they paint the whole car? WILL it blend? Full repaint would have been the right move considering the jambs/door areas were already bronze.
--Headlights don't seem to sit quite right. Makes me wonder considering the front end has been repainted.
--Gas door no emblem...too bad to see that on a 68!
Sorry to be critical, that's just my first impression.
